The dohar is the most used piece of bedding in an Indian home and the least explained one online.

What it is

Two or three layers of cotton muslin quilted together. Light enough to sleep under a fan, warm enough for an air-conditioned room, and thin enough to wash at home and dry the same day.

Single-layer, double-layer, quilted

• Single-layer muslin throw — March to June, or a nap under a fan.
• Two-layer dohar — the year-round piece for an AC room at 24–26°C.
• Quilted or three-layer — a cold December night in Maharashtra, or an AC set low.

Size before pattern

A single dohar is roughly 60 x 90 inches and a double 90 x 100. On a queen bed, a single leaves both sleepers pulling. Finished size in inches is on every product page.

Block print and colour

Hand block-printed cotton varies in print alignment and shade between pieces, and the first two washes will release some colour. That is the process, not a defect — wash separately at the start.
