Washable low-pile rugs solve a real problem in Indian homes, and they fail in one predictable way: the corners lift.

Why it curls

A thin rug rolled for shipping keeps that memory for a few days. Lay it flat, weight the corners for 48 hours, and most of it settles. What does not settle is a rug stored folded for months.

Backing

Non-slip backing grips a tiled floor but not a rug pad. On smooth vitrified tiles a thin underlay adds grip and takes the wear instead of the rug.

Pile height

Under 8 mm passes under most Indian internal doors. Anything higher needs a check with a door open, especially in a rented flat where you cannot trim the door.

Washing

Only the ones described as washable, at the temperature the page states, and never in a top-loader with an agitator. Air dry flat — a tumble dryer shrinks the backing more than the pile.

Size

Measure the furniture arrangement, not the room. A 5 x 7 that stops short of the sofa legs makes a room look smaller than no rug at all.
